My mom has had anxiety for as long as I can remember and she's been on and off of medication for years. She has times where she says that she experiences no anxiety and other times where she says that stress totally triggers it. I've had anxiety for a while now and I've been wondering if it's genetic or triggered by stress and overall lifestyle?

I've read that it's genetic but that it can also be due to lifestyle, meaning stress and other factors. I don't have anxiety in my family and I've had it for ages.

I think it's genetic and just because your parents don't have anxiety doesn't mean that you can't get it. My parents don't have it and I don't know anyone in my family that does and I have it.
