last week my anxiety was at an all time high to the point where i felt a panic attack coming on. there were times that i was crying so hard that i couldn't breathe, it was all too overwhelming. missing my dad so much that it literally physically hurt. i didn't know how to cope and i didn't know what to do to make it through but somehow i came out of it and i'm feeling a bit better. i don't know how to avoid another episode like that because i don't know if i can handle it and i'm also having anxiety just thinking about it happening again. i'm literally having anxiety right now about having anxiety, is that weird? anyhow, i am trying to keep really busy and that seems to help but it's when i slow down or stop that everything starts to flood in. so now i am afraid to slow down or stop. being in bed at night is the hardest time for me because i can't stop thinking about my dad and how much i miss him. it's rough. i don't know what to do to start getting through the nights. that's where i'm at a loss.

Digby, I am so sorry to hear about your week last week. Boy oh boy, when I read your post it really reminded me of what I went through. There were times that I cried so hard that I couldn't breathe to the point that I thought I was going to end up in the hospital. Deep breathing is the only thing that has helped me through all of this and guided meditation. Without those tools, I don't know where I would be. If you need help with either one let me know. Things will get better for you, but it will take time. Each week will get a bit easier and then one day you'll wake up and start to feel like life is getting back to normal. I'm here to help you through this in any little way that I can.

thanks millie, having your support here helps a lot. it helps to have someone understand exactly how i'm feeling. sometimes people look at me like i'm crazy when i talk to them about it and some even tell me to pull it together. i feel like this is a judgement free zone. if you can give any tips on the deep breathing and i'll start there. thanks.

that sounds like a tough week digby and it's awful that you went through all of that. i hope that you are having a better week this week. and i know exactly what you're talking about because when i tell friends about my anxiety and not being able to be out with them they don't get it at all. one friend tells me to stop stressing as if that'll magically make my anxiety go away, it actually makes it worse.

Hi Digby, the deep breathing that I like to do is: 1) breathe in for four counts, 2) hold for four counts, and 3) exhale for eight counts. You can do this anywhere anytime but I love to get out into the fresh air. But I will do it while I'm sitting at work at my desk, while at the grocery store, watching TV, laying in bed...really just about anywhere. It's especially great for travel. It helps me a lot while I'm sitting on a flight waiting to take off.
