I never knew my thyroid could cause panic attacks

Hello Everyone,

The past five years of my life have been quite the journey, a lot more of which I will share separately at some point, but the main reason for this post is to share about my panic attacks. About five years ago, I started getting debilitating panic attacks that would land me in the emergency room time after time after time. After many tests (CT scans, EKGs, bloodwork, etc), the emergency room doctors would all tell me that I am a perfectly healthy woman each and every time I was there. Well, I certainly felt far from healthy. I would follow-up with my General Physician and she would tell me that I was healthy too. Then one day a friend of mine told me about her hypothyroidism and I decided to start looking into it. I made an appointment with a specialist who told me that I did indeed have hypothyroidism so she prescribed medication to balance out my thyroid. It took a few months, but the panic attacks disappeared like magic. They were just gone. And I haven't had any in over one year. I did a lot of my own research about panic attacks and the thyroid and saw that they are interlinked. I even read an article on this site about it. I was blown away. I thought that I would have to live that way forever and low and behold it was my thyroid all along.

My anxiety is still there because of my high-stress life, but at least my panic attacks are gone. I am really grateful for that. I am realizing more and more that there are, at times, underlying health issues that go unnoticed when dealing with anxiety and panic attacks.

Thanks for listening, Millie

Thank you glow, I appreciate your support. It really helps to get to the root causes of my anxiety and panic. I know that I still have a road ahead of me but it's all one step at a time.
