Tips On Tapering Off Anxiety Before A Test

Whether you’re a graduate student preparing for your finals or an aspiring real estate developer who needs to get a license, test anxiety affects all of us. Most of the test anxiety comes from the fear of failure, the belief that your fate rests with the test.

Being able to reduce your anxiety before a test will help you remember the material and allow you to relax so that you can do your best.

Study

Make sure to spend enough time studying. Most people wait until the last minute to begin looking over the material but learning a bit every day until the test will help you better understand the concepts.

There are various studying techniques: flashcards, writing definitions down, explaining the concepts to someone else; find what works best for you.

Focus

Clear out any distractions you may have; this means personal drama, other work, and various obligations. Plan to give yourself enough time before the test to just focus on the task at hand, putting off anything that does not require immediacy, and devote your attention to the test.

At the same time, don’t become so deeply entrenched in preparing that you psych yourself out; remember to take breaks and eat regularly. Taking care of yourself is one of the best ways to relieve your anxiety and get rid of anxiety symptoms.

Execute

On the day of the test, have a filling breakfast and take a walk outside. Being in nature can be very calming and rejuvenating; getting centered before a test will ease your mind and keep your brain sharp. Don’t worry about over-studying; you’ve got this.
